I'm a Chewy Cookie Convert

I used to wonder why do Americans (and other angmohs) love soft chewy cookies. All my life, I have always eaten crunchy cookies. Aren't cookies supposed to be  crunchy?

Simply Ribs!

While running errands one day, my brother discovered a new restaurant, Simply Ribs@Taman Tun Dr Ismail. Being a ribs lover, he visited one day and sent me a picture of his lunch.

Eggs with a Kick : Shakshuka!

The humble egg. Much maligned for its supposedly unhealthy cholesterol content. Bah! I never listened, never believed and ate 3 eggs a day to no ill effects.

Cheddar Cheese Loaf

For someone who has a love hate relationship with cheese, it's rather strange to find me baking a butter cake that contains cheese.

Juicy Spicy Thighs

This is the Spicy Chicken that I saw on Paul Hollywood's Bread. It was actually Spicy Shredded Chicken because it was shredded and eaten with tortilla. But after I took the chicken out of the oven, it seemed such a shame to shred them.

Oh My Garden!

My garden has been largely neglected but lately I have been taking time out on Sunday mornings to tend to my plants. It's a joy to step out of the house to see these cheery looking leaves.

Roasted Tomato Salsa

The other evening I was flipping channels on the TV. That was when I chanced upon Paul Hollywood's TV show, Bread. Any fans of Paul Hollywood here?

So Slimy So Geli....

After reading on Mun's post on Tororo Yamaimo, I became very curious. I did see this item on the menu at Mitsuyado Sei-Men when I visited earlier but I was not that adventurous to try this very unfamiliar thing.

Who Put Mojo in My Food?

Baking mojo! All of a sudden, I was inspired to bake. So last weekend I baked, baked, baked.

No Need to Cook!

With readily available food with such variety from the chap fan (mixed rice/nasi campur) stalls, there is no need to cook right? Right!

A Very Heavy Brunch

One morning my brother dropped by the office. It was only 10:30 am but the two of us went over to a new eatery at The Starling for a bite to eat.

I've Lost That Baking Feeling

Did you realize that I haven't baked for a while? Of course you did. After all, I started off as Phong Hong Bakes and then I realized I couldn't live up to that name and changed it to Phong Hong Bakes & Cooks.

Sarawak Laksa

After trying Kampua Mee at SRK Noodle House I dropped by again. That first Kampua Mee did not impress me but I wasn't going to let that first impression deter me from at least giving the well known East Malaysian noodle another chance.

Eating Kerabu While Being Spooked

Are you on holiday today? Thursday was Merdeka Day dan Friday was Hari Raya Haji. And the evening before Merdeka Day, our Prime Minister declared Monday (today) a public holiday due to Malaysia's exceptional achievement at the SEA Games. Sweet, eh?

My Scary Mysterious Visitors

This incident happened a few months ago. I was waiting for my brother to pick me up in the morning when I spotted something very strange on my kafir lime plant. It looked like a black mass of something.

Spare Parts Noodles

I discovered a noodle shop, Wan Xiang Noodles@Damansara Uptown, but never took the initiative to step inside. This shop is located along the shop houses where The Ship is. My brother also took notice of this eatery and after our dinner at The Ship, we walked in.

So Bloody. So Good.

One evening my brother surprised me with a suggestion for dinner. We already met up for lunch and a movie the previous weekend but I certainly do not mind having another makan session with him.

Sweet and Sour Pomfret

What? Fish again? Well, I had two pomfrets hibernating in the freezer. One became Ikan Goreng Sambal Lebur while its companion was turned into Sweet and Sour Fish.

Bingsu, Anyone?

I have always been curious about Bingsu, the Korean shaved ice dessert. I see pictures of it plastered in cafes and places that specialize in Bingsu and they do look pretty attractive.

Wednesday, 23 August 2017

Ikan Goreng Sambal Lebur (Fried Fish with Sambal Lebur)

After I did a post on Sambal Lebur, my mum whatsapp me asking for the recipe. You know you have arrived when your mum asks you for recipe and not the other way around wahahaha!!

Horror Movie Date

It was nearing the weekend and I wanted to watch a horror movie. Stress relief lah as I had to work that Saturday. I usually book my ticket a day or two earlier but for this movie I hesitated.

Monday, 21 August 2017

Nasi Goreng Sambal Belacan

Yay! Carb fest! hee..hee..hee... If I am going to have a cheat day with rice, it might as well be a nasi goreng and better still, not any nasi goreng but Nasi Goreng Sambal Belacan.

Friday, 18 August 2017

Cow Cow

After lunch the other day, I decided to walk around Damansara Uptown as a form of exercise. Hah! It was not a very hot day owing to the rain earlier.

Thursday, 17 August 2017

Sweet and Sour Meatballs

I am so determined not to just look at the photos in my cookbooks. So I made an effort to cook another recipe from it. Sweet and Sour Meatballs. Easy peasy, right?

Wednesday, 16 August 2017

Traditional Malay Curry

I am no authority on curries, Malay or otherwise. That's what it said on the packaging, Gulai Melayu Tradisional. So I took it as good and for the first time, tried a recipe printed on a spice packaging.

The Chap Fan Lady Freaked Out

Whenever I go and eat chap fan, the lady boss never speaks to me beyond telling me the price to pay. Not that she is snobbish or anything.

Monday, 14 August 2017

Sambal Lebur

I am always on the lookout for sambal recipes, especially the easy ones that require no exact measurements where you can simply chuck stuff, blend and then simply saute the whole lot in the wok.

Friday, 11 August 2017

A Minty Coleslaw

When my mum visited recently, she brought me two containers of Kemangi/Selasih seeds (from my dad's garden).

I Fell In Love

One morning I was greeted by these Adenium flower buds. And then I was greeted with more blooms. This is a good sign, no? Love is in the air! So who did I fall in love with?

Wednesday, 9 August 2017

Mummy's Fried Chicken

It was a last minute decision to make my mum's fried chicken one Sunday.

Tuesday, 8 August 2017

What Do You Want To Eat, Darling?

"Ai chiak hamik?" (what do you want to eat? He didn't say darling, that was just wishful thinking on my part) my partner asked me one Friday evening. "Lu ai chiak hamik?" (what do you want to eat?) I asked him back.

Monday, 7 August 2017

Mongolian Chicken

Or is this Thai chicken? I ask because the sauce is made with Thai chili sauce. So how is it Mongolian? Never mind. Asal sedap, sudah.

Friday, 4 August 2017

Curry Laksa vs Japanese Laksa

Just in case you thought that I am so good for staying on a low carb diet, I do deviate from time to time. I was badly behaved one particular day.

Thursday, 3 August 2017

Go Noodles No Noodles

Who does that, right? Go into a noodle shop and tell them you don't want noodles.

Wednesday, 2 August 2017

I Hope You Are Not Having Your Breakfast Now

Or lunch or dinner while reading this. That's because I want to talk about poop. Caterpillar poop. Look what I found one morning. Nestled on my Adenium leaf were one, two, three, four droppings. Eeeuwww!!!

Tuesday, 1 August 2017

A Lunch and Movie Date

With the brother last weekend. It's great that the two of us can still spend time with each other in our adulthood.

Monday, 31 July 2017

Mitsuyado Sei-Men

After my first experience, I had to go back. In the beginning, I was a little iffy about the Yuzu dipping broth.

Friday, 28 July 2017

Home Kitchen

That's Restoran Home Kitchen. A fairly new chap fan shop which opened last year, if I remember correctly. Yup, eating chap fan again. Haiz....

Thursday, 27 July 2017

My El Cheapo Lunch

I am on the chap fan trail again. Eh, what happened to the weekend cooking?

Wednesday, 26 July 2017

Meatballs With Baked Beans

Who loves baked beans? Me! Me! There was a time when I lived in a rented room and I used to eat baked beans straight from the can.

Strange Tasting Wanton Mee

I was very hungry the other day and when it was time to eat, I decided to try the new wanton mee place.

Tuesday, 25 July 2017

Fried Macaroni

After making Macaroni Soup, I decided to do something else with my stock of macaroni. There are many recipes for fried spaghetti and I thought why not fried macaroni. True enough, there are lots of recipes for macaroni goreng (fried macaroni) with many versions.

I Wore My Selipar Jepun To The Ritz Carlton

I am terrified of wedding dinners mainly due to the time overrun. And especially if the event is held on a Sunday evening.

Thursday, 20 July 2017

Meehoon Goreng

I suddenly had a craving for meehoon goreng. Malay style with lots of chilies. Besides, I had an awesome Sambal Jate that would go brilliantly with the meehoon goreng.

Wednesday, 19 July 2017

Kampua Mee

The first time I heard about Kampua Mee was when I followed Mr Arthur Wee's blog. Mr Wee is rather fond of Kampua Mee and everytime he blogs about this noodle, I get more and more curious about it.

Tuesday, 18 July 2017

Grandma's Macaroni Soup

When I was a little girl, my grandparents loved to cook macaroni soup with chicken and vegetables. Grandma called it "maconi" instead of macaroni.

Sunday, 16 July 2017

Best Way To Eat Guava

I don't know if this qualifies as a pickle but in Malay it is called Jeruk Jambu Batu Asam Boi and the word jeruk means pickle. Or perhaps the word "marinated" would be more appropriate.

Another Health Crisis. Haiz!

I am a disaster lately. First it was the flu. And then I threw out my back. Last weekend, while changing my bedsheets, I bent over to straighten the sheets. Pop! Pop! I felt my back going out of alignment.

Sunday, 9 July 2017

Sambal Jate. Awesome Habis!

This is the fastest that I tried a recipe after seeing it on a blog. Thanks to LiNa_Pg I learnt about a sambal that I never heard of before.
