Where Are The Mushrooms?

I went to my favorite place at The Starling for lunch the other day. I did not want to eat anything stodgy like pasta or rice or potatoes. So I stuck to the salad section.

Sesame Tofu Mushrooms Salad it was. Described as "Tofu, soy mushrooms, steamed and roasted vegetables, soy lava egg and sesame dressing", it sounded delicious to me. And healthy too, right?

I added a grilled chicken of course. Must. Have. Protein.

I love mushrooms. So obviously I was expecting a whole lot of mushrooms in my salad.

And it came looking like this.

Mana itu mushrooms?

Upon closer inspection, I see a not-so-lava-egg (the other half was under the chicken), one broccoli floret, one cauliflower floret, some brinjals, green beans, a big piece of soft tofu and dressing.

So I did some digging.

Ohhhh...got lah...buried underneath all the ingredients. There's probably just a tablespoon of it. I think it should be renamed Sesame Tofu Roasted Vegetable Salad. Don't you think?

  2. Yes, I totally agree with you that it should be renamed. When they say Sesame Tofu Mushroom Salad, I expect to see mushroom as a key ingredient (and they didn't even give fresh mushrooms? Are those dried Chinese mushrooms?). What a coincidence...I encountered the same problem with what I thought was an incorrect naming of a product in my blog post today.

  5. Full of protein in the salad. I still go for the green salad than this. Lol.

  6. I often see wonderful and fabulous mouthful names on menus. They are so creative to entice the customers to order but got deceived instead. The most common tricks are the fresh juices served from bottles and not freshly squeezed.

Now back to your mushrooms, so you managed to unearth them which were deeply buried inside the rubble of treasures. Honestly, I was attracted to the cold tofu, egg and others which struck my head that I have eaten this in Japan. They used a lot of cold tofu in salads which is very delicious. I must go to Starling to eat but where....???

  11. Very misleading name. I love mushrooms too, dried and fresh! Ha ha the mushrooms play hide and seek with you. I will prefer more green than having a big slab of white tofu.
